Keri Russell in My ‘Hood?

Well, apparently I’m oblivious as hell to my surroundings and my better half has the Star-dar.  It seems that on Friday, walking out of a restaurant two blocks away we walked past Keri Russell… and on Saturday, Julianna Margulies was outside the bar where we were out drinking with a group of folks.  A few weeks ago, Amy spotted Eric McCormack (Will on Will and Grace) a few tables over at a Cuban restaurant, despite the fact that he was quite unshaven and a little unkempt.

Am I oblivious, or does Amy imagine that she sees celebrities?  She mentioned Jake Gyllenhaal had walked past her apartment last week.  Aside from personalities who work at or are visiting my office building, my brushes with fame seem to be quite rare.  I’m almost positive I rode the subway across from Matthew Broderick once, back in April.

I live in the West Village.  It would probably be unreasonable for there not to be celebs around… but how does anyone spot them with so many people walking by?  Do I not see them because I’m missing some pattern recognition talent? Because it’s probably optimal not to be on the lookout while in a city of 8 million people?

I guess the solution is to become someone that gets recognized by the A-List, and they’ll point me out to their companions.
