About time for a moon base
December 5th, 2006
It’s about time… we’re gonna get a moon base. NASA has announced their intention to build a permanent base on the moon.
It’s been my (probably woefully uninformed) view that by establishing a permanent presence somewhere not only without the gravitational forces of Earth being as strong as they are, but also with a physical place to explore and exploit, is a great thing.
The ISS is a nifty thing for experiments, and for learning about creating long-term vehicular habitation space, but it’s hardly a jumping-off point.
We’ll see how the international community reacts… I wouldn’t be surprised to see outrage from other countries about the audacity we must have to start “colonizing” the moon.
