One of the fun things about Youtube doing maintenance is that I always know from the webstats on my blog where previous posts youtube down for scheduled maintenance and Youtube down – wtf? are in the top 10 results for “youtube down” in Google. A quick look at my web stats makes me pop on over to see Youtube’s “We’re currently working on the site. We’ll be back shortly.” maintenance message, since people seem to always be looking for information about why or how long it’ll be down.
It’s been down quite a lot lately, and one does have to wonder whether it’s because there are architectural flaws in the way they’ve laid things out. I’ve never seen Yahoo down. GMail has had issues, but I’ve only had a problem with Google once that I can recall. Since it’s 3AM, I’m not about to go looking up info on Youtube’s infrastructure, but I’ll see what I can gather at some point to see if I can provide any insight into their need for regular disruptive maintenance.
